In early September 2023, TerraSure were approached by MMD who were seeking expert assistance for their Net Zero transition. TerraSure were delighted to be chosen as MMD’s carbon reduction partner and over the following 18 months helped them to achieve many of their goals.
MMD is a global supplier of mining equipment, with 21 operational facilities and 570+ employees worldwide. Founded in 1978 in Nottingham and now with Head Office in Laxey, Isle of Man, MMD originally supported British coal mining operations. Over time, the business has grown to serve the wider mining and quarrying sectors. Traditionally focused on crushing equipment, MMD is now also exploring new innovative mining equipment and recycling solutions—such as repurposing materials from demolished buildings—and community-driven projects like the design and manufacture of landmine crushers.

MMD embarked on a sustainability journey driven by its commitment to offering green mining solutions as well as requests from large mining companies for their OEM’s to start the journey and meet Scope 3 emissions reporting standards.
MMD felt there were several key factors which influenced their decision such as a strong internal desire to be a responsible, future-ready supplier for their customers and the growing need to meet compliance requirements to access tenders and contracts.
TerraSure were chosen by MMD to support this journey due to their specialist expertise in carbon reporting and their ability to provide hands-on support, with a specific detailed carbon report and action plan for each facility through their Road to Net Zero (R2NZ) programme.
MMD approached TerraSure at a point where they had little clarity on their existing carbon emissions. The primary goal was to calculate a worldwide carbon baseline, identify high-emission areas and set realistic targets for emission reduction across both local sites and the wider business. MMD aimed to explore:

MMD have 5 manufacturing plants worldwide
Prior to engaging TerraSure, MMD faced several hurdles that needed addressing such as lack of insight into emissions sources across their global operations, difficulty in identifying and tracking emissions from five manufacturing plants and global transportation and finally, a desire to align with long-term targets (2030/2035) in line with other mining industry leaders.
Together, TerraSure and MMD worked to find a solution through their structured R2NZ programme. This included expert guidance from Eoin McQuone (Principal Consultant) and his team, help in collecting and analysing data across offices and plants using the GCP portal and dashboard as well as insights into energy use, equipment lifecycle and key emission sources.
Through this, TerraSure helped MMD to establish a Worldwide Carbon Baseline for the year 2023 and results at both a global and facility level were shared across the business. The company has since completed reports for 2024 and 2025.

Together TerraSure and MMD were then able to create a detailed roadmap showing short, medium, and long-term actions that MMD were able to make. Having agreed on appropriate solutions, MMD began implementing the changes:

The partnership has been overwhelmingly positive. MMD shared that:
“The process has been great—Eoin and the team have been incredibly helpful. The tools, data crunching and advice were all invaluable, and the online portal made everything easier. We’ve had support across time zones and want to keep TerraSure involved in our journey.”
Chris Pearson, Group Business Development Director.
MMD particularly valued TerraSure's data analysis expertise, their hands-on support and the ability to provide tailored guidance that aligned with the company's operations.
MD believes reaching Net Zero is about more than just business—it’s about industry transformation and global responsibility. The company recognises a shift from “dirty minerals” to cleaner, greener practices and feels proud to be part of that evolution.
As part of its Isle of Man operations, MMD also engaged in government-led workshops to align with regional sustainability targets—further reinforcing the importance of collective action.

MMD contribute to conservation work in their local communities
What began as a compliance requirement has evolved into a core strategic priority for MMD. The company now embraces innovation in clean technologies like fossil-free steel and ongoing technology focused development as well as actively promoting sustainability to staff, suppliers and customers and sees growing reputational benefits as awareness increases across the business.
Looking ahead, MMD plan to develop more circular and efficient machinery whilst exploring sustainable manufacturing methods. We are leading by example in the mining sector, which is traditionally seen as high impact, with the aim to reduce our carbon emissions and be net zero.
